Rendell: Reagan would not approve of recent Republican behavior

In an interview with Keith Olbermann, Gov. Ed Rendell (D-PA) said that Former President Ronald Reagan (R), and Fmr. Senator Barry Goldwater (R-AZ) would not have stood for the “lack of civility,” and general tone conducive of violence from Republicans and Tea Party Republican supporters.  This interview comes after Rendell and more than 30 other governors received letters from an anti-government group asking that they resign or be “removed from office” within three days.  The FBI is treating this very seriously, as they fear this type of rhetoric could cause others to react violently.  Governor Rendell has refused to alter any of recent plans in light of this threat.

On a positive note, Rendell applauded insurers compliance with a loophole concerning preexisting conditions that would have allowed insurers to postpone coverage until 2014.

“The law, as passed, would have required insurers to eliminate pre-existing condition exclusions from any group policy or any current family policy, but it would have allowed insurers to deny coverage to new family applicants based on pre-existing conditions,” Rendell said in a statement. “The industry’s willingness to work with the Obama Administration to make insurance available to all children this year is a positive step that I hope reflects a new spirit of cooperation in making health reform work for all Americans.” –IFAwebnews
